Google Earth iPhone Version Is Being Developed

A startup company called Earthscape is developing a Google Earth style application for the iPhone - that lets you tilt the phone to navigate around to different parts of the globe.

This early demo of the app - which is being developed using the iPhoen SDK and is currently in private beta on Windows only - was originally posted on the Google Earth Blog.

Here’s a little more detail on the Earthscape Mobile program:

The demo is of a mobile application (Earthscape Mobile) in development that puts virtual earth software on the iPhone. When the iPhone is tilted, the earth begins to rotate and you can navigate to another part of the globe. Taylor notes that the app was running locally on the phone, and that ideally you’d would want real geo-spatial information downloaded over WiFi or 3G, which would take a ton of bandwidth and effect performance.

Passwords are decrypted in your browser only so plain text data is never sent to the server. In fact, we couldn’t decrypt your data if we wanted to.

- Added templates for quicker entry of data such as “Bank Accounts”, “Web Logins”, etc.

aolmobileAOL has officially launched the beta version of AOL Mobile Search service created specifically for the iPhone and iPod touch.

AOL Mobile Search for the iPhone was designed specifically for the Apple iPhone’s mobile Safari browser. Mobile Search has a traditional Web search engine, but also has features specially tailored to search the content of various AOL properties, including Moviefone, MapQuest, AOL CityGuide and others.

By combining AJAX technology and the iPhone’s easy to use multi-touch surface, AOL has created a user interface that allows the richness of the web to be delivered on a phone, says Steve Murphy, senior vice president of AOL.

The new search portal places a priority on iPhone-optimized websites and returns web searches with these websites at the top of the list.
